Exploiting Renewable Energy and UPS Systems to Reduce Power Consumption in Data Centers

Leveraging on-site renewable sources like solar and wind provides ample opportunities on developing environmental friendly energy-efficient data centers. Due to intermittent nature of energy fluctuating grid price, advanced centers often deploy distributed UPS systems with high efficiency, scalability, reliability. In this study, we investigate the problem management for resources storages. We propose an interface-backbone layer framework designed unified efficiency system called REDUX, which properly allocate energy, battery storage or power dynamic price aiming minimize long-term electricity bill center. With prediction supply, categorization level in devices, REDUX orchestrates workload distribution heuristic algorithms act as smoothing, device control, control strategies, make back-fills defer decisions non-urgent jobs. Compared existing a comprehensive view center demonstrates prominent capability mitigating average peak boosting renewable-energy utilization.
